a. Open OBM -Drape’s outer cover and remove OBM -Drape.
b. Remove the OBM -Drape from the inner cover.
c. Unwrap OBM -Drape.
d. Place the OBM -Drape in a way that the conical transparent pouch is at the edge of the table and the top portion of the OBM -Drape should be placed on the delivery couch.
e. Place the patient in a way that the drape lies beneath her back.
f. Immediately the baby is born, attach the conical V pouch on the mat.
g. Determine the amount of bleeding through the calibration marks on the conical transparent V pouch of OBM -Drape.
h. Fold the pouch for incineration with other disposable medical waste.”
Procedure
All soiled mats should be stored in a closed color coded (Red) waste bin as they await processing for reuse.
Step 1: Cleaning
• Mechanically clean the mats using soapy water.
• Use a soft brush to remove clotted blood stains from the Velcro part & the strings
Step 2: Disinfection
• Fully immerse the mats in 0.5% Sodium hypochlorite solution for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Rinse
• Rinse the mats with clean running water.
Step 4: Dry
• Hang the mats in open air, preferably in the sunlight.
Step 5: Storage
• Store the mats in clean dry place away from contamination
1. The mats should not be subjected to any form of heat sterilization includingautoclaving.
2. When appropriately decontaminated everytime the mats can be used up to 99times.
3. The blood collection pouch is not reuseable and should be disposed as per the facility’s waste disposal protocols preferably by incineratio.

Hub and Spoke Network: Create a waste disposal hub and spoke network where smaller public health facilities that lack incinerators take their waste to a nearby public health facilities that have incinerators.
